Bereza District

The Bereza District lies in the centre of the region where the Bug Plain meets the Pripyat Polesia, about 1,412 km². It was formed in January 1940. Bereza is first mentioned in 1477 as a village of the Slonim county; in the 17th century a Carthusian monastery was built here, and until 1940 the town was called Bereza Kartuska.

The second town of the district, Beloozersk, stands between the lakes Beloe and Chernoe. It appeared in 1958 as a settlement for the builders and staff of the Bereza power station and became a town in 1970.
