Districts: redrawing in 1940-1966
The districts formed on 15 January 1940 kept changing their borders and names for another quarter of a century. Here are the main changes, which the district pages of this site also mention:
- 1947 - the centre of the Kossovo District moved to Ivatsevichi, and the district became the Ivatsevichi District.
- 1950 - the Domachevo District was joined to the Brest District.
- 1954 - the districts of the abolished Pinsk Region - Pinsk, Luninets, Stolin, David-Gorodok, Ivanovo, Drogichin, Gantsevichi - became part of the Brest Region, as did Baranovichi and Lyakhovichi.
- 1961 - the David-Gorodok District was joined to the Stolin District, which became the largest district of Belarus.
- 1962 - districts were enlarged: Gantsevichi went into Lyakhovichi, Ivatsevichi into Bereza, Malorita was abolished; the Baranovichi and Kamenets districts took their present shape.
- 1965-1966 - the Ivatsevichi, Malorita and Gantsevichi districts were restored.
Since then the region has had 16 districts. On the district maps where village councils are labelled separately, the next, smaller level of division can be seen.
